Reformation Sunday

Fellowship and Events

95thsesQuick quiz. Why is Reformation Sunday, the Sunday following October 31?

Stumped? Reformation Day is also known as Halloween or All Hallows Eve or Hallow’s evening which is the eve of All Saints Day. On All Hallows Eve, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis to the door of the Wittenburg Church.

The first of his Thesis was: “When Our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, said, “Repent”, He called for the entire life of believers to be one of repentance.” This concept shows the heart of the gospel–that faith and repentance is an ongoing calling for the Christian rather than a the first step to becoming a Christian.

In honor of Reformation Day and Martin Luther’s bold stand for the gospel and the purifying fire which followed, GPC will host a Reformation Party at the building Sunday evening at 6:30 at the building. Join us for shmores and music. Maybe we’ll even watch a movie

Is it September all ready?

Fellowship and Events

Things around the congregation are full of hustle and bustle as we make the turn into the regular programmatic year, and there are plenty of places for you to get involved, share your gifts, and be encouraged in your walking with Jesus Christ. Check out our church calendar here, and you can subscribe to categories for your own calendar if you are using Google Calendar.

We are very excited to be working towards hosting our first family as a part of our participation with Family Promise of Forsyth County.

Grace House Preschool opened its doors this week to new and returning students, and it is always an encouragement to see those young, happy faces learning and playing. Some how the building feels more ‘homey’–if you know what I mean.

Lastly, Wednesday nights begin on September 23. Middle and High Schoolers will meet from 6-7:30pm, Grace Kids (K-5) will meet from 6:30-7:30pm, and a class on finance and money management will be offered for Adults from 6:30-7:30. We hope to see you there.

GPC Weekly, August 9-16

Fellowship and Events

We’re making the turn back into Fall and that means with the return of the regular schedule that programs are starting up. There are a plethora of ministry opportunities in the church: Children’s Ministry, Family Promise, Youth Ministry, etc…. Please consider what God would have you be a part of.

This week is the last week of our Summer Flip. Sunday following the worship service, children will be collecting school supplies which will be solicited at the Children’s Ice Cream Sundae Service Project held on Wednesday evening (8/12). On Sunday, August 16 around lunchtime we will gather at Kernersville Lake Park shelter to picnic, fish, and play. Please bring or picnic lunch for your family and join us for a day at the park. You can read more about the park here.

Some of you have asked about when the sermons page will be updated. After dealing with some technical issues, and getting some much appreciated help, we’re up to date now, though we lost a couple of recordings. You can find the Sermon’s page here. You can also get a refresher over at Twentystone, where Pastor Randy has been putting some thoughts down about the Seven Deadly Sins.

Lastly, sign ups continue for the Day in Danbury on August 22. You can read more here.

It’s still not too late to sign up for the Day in Danbury tubing trip. Please check out the Day in Danbury link  for more info.

Lastly volunteer training for Family Promise will be August 24 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the building. If you are volunteering or even curious, please plan on attending.

Don’t Dawdle We’re Planning a Day in Danbury

Fellowship and Events

In the interest of driving timphoto0314e and cost, we have rerouted our tubing trip from the New River (1 1/2 hrs. west) to the Dan River (45 min. north).  This is a GPC Youth sponsored event for ALL of our church family.  Here’s what you need to know:

Who:  GPC Youth invites all singles, couples, and families to tube and picnic in Danbury. Elementary age children are welcome…parents, you decide how young you feel comfortable with having on a tube.  The Danbury General Store has smaller tubes for children.

When:  Saturday, August 22nd

Time:  9:00 am (meet at church) – 3 pm-ish

Cost:  $9 per person (possibly $8 if we have 30+ folks going). Plus, a cooler-packed picnic lunch for yourself and any others in your family who are going.

Transportation:  When we meet at the church, we will decide who rides with whom…if you have a larger vehicle with space for others, please bring it to help transport folks.  If just your teen is going, we will make sure he/she has a way up there. :-)

What to bring:  Swimsuit, shorts, towel, sunscreen!!, picnic lunch for after the tubing trip.  The short trip is running around 2 hours right now (according to water levels).  We will then go to the Moratock County Park for our picnic.  Bring frisbees or any other outdoor fun for playing at the park.

Sign up!:  There is a sheet out in the foyer on the “desk”.  Please sign up no later than Monday, August 17th so we can let them know how many tubes/vests we will need.

Please call the church office if you have questions.

Additionally, if any cyclist would like to ride to Danbury, climb Hanging Rock, and then meet at the General Store, please let Randy know. We’ll need to leave Kernersville around 7 am.
